Obituary:BEVERLY Anita R. (Martineau) Smiddy, 84, loving wife of the late Paul E. Smiddy, died Thursday afternoon, November 4, 2004 at Beverly Hospital. Born in Salem, daughter of the late Andre and Annette (Desrosiers) Martineau, she attended Ste. Chrtien Catholic School and graduated from Salem High School in the class of 1938. She continued her education and graduated from Burdette Business School in Lynn. She had resided in Point of Pines Revere, and Nahant but most recently was living in Beverly.
Mrs. Smiddy was employed with T.W.Rogers in Lynn working in sales. She was also employed with General Electric earlier in her career working in the Aircraft Engine Division and later in her career worked for General Electric again in the Gear Plant and Personnel as an executive secretary. During her retirement years, Mrs. Smiddy was the personal secretary to the former Governor of Massachusetts, John A. Volpe in Nahant.
Mrs. Smiddy was a member of the Sodality at St. Thomas Aquinas Church and was a regular volunteer at My Brothers Table in Lynn for many years.
Surviving her is her loving daughter, Stephanie MacGregor and her husband Eugene of Beverly; 2 beloved grandchildren, Ian P. MacGregor of San Francisco, CA; Ross W. MacGregor of Beverly; one devoted brother, Roland Martineau and devoted sister, Doris Cole both of Beverly. She also leaves her adoring nieces, nephews, and godchildren and also her caring extended family of staff and friends at Ocean View Assisted Living. She was also a dear companion of the late Edward DeMayo.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Nahant on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nahant.
