Woodhaven Church To Welcome Tenors
Accompaniment By Renowned Pianist

“An Evening With These Three Tenors,” sponsored by St. Thomas Apostle Church in Woodhaven, will take place on Saturday evening, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Monsignor Mulz Hall, 88th Street and Jamaica Avenue in Woodhaven.
The concert will feature Michael Crouse, Thomas Stallone (Sylvester’s cousin), Rinaldo Toglia and pianist William Thomas SMIDDY. The program will include favorites from the stage and screen as well as a few surprises. It will be an evening filled with beautiful music that will appeal to virtually every musical taste.

 William Thomas SMIDDY, pianist, was born in Boston and began his musical training at the age of five with the renowned Margaret Chaloff of the New England Conservatory of Music. He made his debut at the age of seven playing Mozart’s Concerto in A Major (K. 488) with Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops Orchestra. Since his debut, he has given more than 2,000 performances on the world’s great concert stages and has performed with many prestigious orchestra and conductors. He has made numerous appearances at the White House, playing for Presidents Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter and George W. Bush. He also played at the Vatican in 1966 for Pope Paul VI and in 1979 for Pope John Paul II as well as for heads of state in Japan, China, England, South America, the former Soviet Union, Spain and Italy.

Reflection:
An Evening of Music and Song
On Monday evening, June 13, a rare event took place in
the auditorium at our library. A concert featuring two
remarkable artists commanded an SRO crowd (with over
100 more people hoping to be able to attend.) The
program was splendid; the talent - matchless.

Among Mr. Starsky’s moving renditions of operatic,
spiritual and popular songs were Donaudy’s Vainement
ma bien aimee, Donizetti’s Una Furtiva Lagrima,
Schubert’s Ave Maria, Webber’s Music of the Night,
Chaplin’s Smile (yes, that’s Charlie Chaplin) and
Rodgers’ I Have Dreamed. The remarkably versatile Mr.
Smiddy accompanied Mr. Starsky.
Mr. Smiddy’s legendary brilliance as a classical pianist
did not fail to astonish everyone who came to hear him
perform. He delighted the crowd with Addinsell’s Warsaw
Concerto, Azarashvili’s Nocturne, a Chopin Waltz and
Chopin’s Polonaise in A-flat major, Opus 53.
