Thank you for your last letter. As a result of it I think that the mystery of Maurice Colbert is sorted.
I have checked through the parish records of Castlematyr (now ?Imogela) and found that a Maurice Colbert was baptised here on 17 April 1861. His parents were Maurice Colbert and Bridget Desmond of Rathcanning and he was sponsored by James Lee and Jenny Morrison. Around this period a John Colbert and Patrick Colbert were also mentioned again of Rathcanning and they are probably brothers of Maurice.
I'm sorry its taken so long to arrive at the real Maurice Colbert but genealogical searches are quite long drawn out affairs.
If you would like any further research carried out now that the correct parish is known please let me know.

In reply to your letter of 29/11/1987, I find there were about 5 families of COLBERT in RATHCANNING in 1850-60. I presume the family you are interested in is Maurice COLBERT/Bridget DESMOND. They had children Pat born 29/5/1855; Will born 2/11/1856 died 23/6/1943; and Maurice born 17/4/1861.
I understand Will had one Daughter Bridie, who married Michael MURNANE , Midleton, Co. Cork.
