Professor Eda Sagarra was born in Dublin in 1933, 
daughter of Commissioner Kevin O’Shiel SC of Tyrone and Cecil SMIDDY of Cork and 
Granddaughter of Prof. Timothy A. SMIDDY and  
Lillian (Lily) O'CONNELL
married Albert Sagarra of Barcelona, 1 d. Mireia.  
Professor Sagarra received her primary and secondary schooling in Ireland, England and France from 1938-51.
Career: secondary school teacher (German and French) St Andrews, Dublin (1958)
1958-75 Lecturer in German language and literature, later lecturer in German history for Germanists, University of Manchester; also part-time lecturer in Workers Educational Association
1975-98 Professor of German at Trinity College, University of Dublin

SAGARRA, Dr Albert (Dublin and Barcelona) - May 19, 2008, suddenly, at home, beloved husband of Eda (nee O’Shiel) and beloved father of Mireia.
Deeply regretted by his sister Montserrat, son-in-law John, sister-in-law Clodagh, brother-in-law Bill Forshaw, his nieces and nephews both in Barcelona and in England, other relatives and friends.
Removal this (Wednesday) evening from Fanagans Funeral Home, Aungier Street to Church of the Three Patrons, Rathgar arriving at 5 o'clock Funeral tomorrow (Thursday) after 10 o'clock Mass to Mount Jerome Cemetery.Requiescat in Pace.
